Lifecycle triggers for automations

When a paid member upgrades to a higher tier, it’s a chance to thank them for their support and introduce them to their new benefits. When a subscription ends, there’s an opportunity to invite someone back.

So far, automations in Ghost has focused on welcoming new free and paid members. Now, the Paid subscription changed trigger helps you stay in touch with your subscribers at key moments across their lifecycle.

Upgrades

When someone’s been on your Silver tier for a few months and then moves up to Gold, they already know their way around — there’s no need to send them through onboarding again. Now you can trigger an automation to thank them for the extra support and let them know what’s new on their plan, like a Discord invite or a private podcast feed.

Run it on every upgrade, or only when members move into a tier with a particular perk. The same trigger works for downgrades too, so you can confirm the change and let members know which benefits they’ll no longer have.

Winback campaigns

When a canceled subscription expires and the member loses access to paid content, start a winback sequence to remind them what they’re missing and invite them back with a discount to resubscribe.

After all, they’ve already found something worth paying for in your publication. Now you can give them a reason to come back.

Automations are currently in beta. To try them, enable Automations in Settings → Labs. then head to the Automations tab to create your first automation.
