# Complimentary plans

Give any reader access to paid content by creating a complimentary plan for their member account in Ghost. 

A complimentary plan can be added to a member account by clicking the "+ Add Complimentary Subscription" link, in the Subscription settings of their profile.

You can also [import members](https://ghost.org/help/import-members/) to Ghost with a complimentary plan set to `TRUE`.

Complimentary plans can be set for a specific duration of time:

- Forever
- 1 Week
- 1 Month
- 6 Months
- 1 Year

When a complimentary plan expires, members will need to upgrade from within their Portal account settings to maintain access to paid content.

To apply a complimentary plan to a paid member's account, you will need to cancel their existing paid subscription from their Stripe Customer Profile **first.*
